“I want to get a book done as quickly as possible,” Galloway told PEOPLE on the red carpet of the CLIO Sports Awards. In a slick Kenneth Cole suit, the double amputee and U.S. Army veteran had Boyd by his side and said he plans to center his memoir about “my different experiences.”
At Wednesday's ceremony, Galloway was met with a standing ovation when he introduced the Innovative Grand CLIO. The notoriety leading up to that standing O accelerated dramatically this spring during his time on Dancing with the Stars when he won over fans' hearts with his passionate dancing and by dropping down on one knee in front of Boyd in an unforgettable moment that's racked up plenty of hits on YouTube.
After wowing on screen, now the real-life Iraq hero hopes to inspire on the page, too.
Galloway says his book will openly address “everything I've gone through – because there's been some ups and downs,” including, among other things, how he dealt with major depression after an IED exploded during a tour of duty, nearly taking his life and forcing the amputation of his left arm below the elbow and left leg below the knee.
Yet his valleys have often been what pushed him to ultimately reach his peaks, such as taking third place on DWTS and proving that Americans with disabilities can do anything they set their mind to.
Nearly two months later, Galloway has kept in contact with costars Sharna Burgess and Chris Soules because “we all rehearsed together and hit it off really well.” Galloway says he recently caught up with Soules, joining him the former Bachelor star in his native Iowa to play in a golf tournament together.
Looking back, Galloway says he has fond memories of his time on DWTS – even trying moments like when he was “kicked in the face by Sharna [and] my tooth got knocked out.”

It's safe to say Galloway's upcoming wedding will be less painful – once he finally finds time out of the spotlight to plan it: “We've both had so much going on we haven't been able to plan for this fall,” he admits. “But we're shooting for next fall on a farm.”
Since both Galloway and Boyd, an Army Reserve Specialist, are Alabama natives, one possible setting is Boyd's family's property. “We'll probably use her pap's farm,” he hints.
One thing is for certain: “I know I'm gonna be in a kilt,” says Galloway, who boasts Scottish heritage and wore the traditional garment on the 2014 cover of Men's Health.
Less romantic? The couple is currently addicted to AMC's hit series The Walking Dead. “We're both big fans – big time,” Galloway and Boyd said simultaneously.
As they say, the couple that watches zombies together, stays together.
