Amy Schumer was an early guest on E!'s pre-Emmys red-carpet special, stopping to talk with co-host Ryan Seacrest. The four-time Emmy nominee brought her sister, Kim, up on the podium with her as she danced and did a bit of singing. But talk quickly turned to another memorable Schumer dance, when she and pal Jennifer Lawrence danced barefoot on the piano at a recent Billy Joel concert, with video footage of the incident quickly popping up online.
After Seacrest played the clip, Schumer explained how the moment came about.
“I've been a groupie for years, just touring with him, riding in the van, putting out,” she quipped before beginning the real story.
Schumer explained that one of her best friends from her Inside Amy Schumer show loves Billy Joel and noted that Joel's music was a big part of her hit summer movie, Trainwreck. Schumer said that she told Joel that she and her friends would be in Chicago and he invited her to come up on the stage and sing “Uptown Girl,” which plays a recurring role in Trainwreck.
She revealed it wasn't her idea to get up on the piano.
“I'm not trying to get to higher surfaces. I like things on the ground. I weigh a buck fifty. Let's keep me low,” Schumer said.
Lawrence, Schumer said, was hanging out with her and her sister because they were working on the script the three of them are writing together, which Lawrence told The New York Times about a few weeks ago.
Schumer invited Lawrence to join her onstage and “that's it,” she told Seacrest.
The comedian also joked about being a “multiple” Emmy nominee, saying, “That's the best thing about being a woman. Multiples. That's a myth. I've never experienced that.”
She also revealed that of all the Emmys she's up for, she's “gunning” for the best directing award for her work on the “12 Angry Men” episode that she wrote and directed.
Schumer also referenced the oppressive heat plaguing the stars on the red carpet, wiping the sweat off of Seacrest's face before she left.
