Singer and actress Olivia Holt spends a lot of time getting glam for work, so on her days off she likes to keep her look low-key.
“I work a lot [and] I feel like I’m always getting hair and makeup, so when it comes to myself I really don’t do much,” the actress-singer, who just released her latest single “Phoenix” on Friday, tells PEOPLE.
“If anything I’ll just throw my hair up in a bun or leave it down and let it do its thing,” she explains. “Then, makeup-wise I’ll be really simple.”
The 18-year-old Neutrogena ambassador also has a laid-back style. One item she’s obsessed with? High-waisted ripped jeans.
“I have probably every pair in every color. I can’t get enough of them. I love them,” admits Holt, who adds that she really likes Topshop jeans.
“Their jeans are good and they’re also really good with their colors because I’m really picky about my colors—if they’re too dark or too light I’m a little on the edge about them,” she explains.
And over the years, Holt has learned what she does and doesn’t like when it comes to fashion. She also reveals she’s had a few style missteps in the past.
“When I first started, I remember wearing this … I think it was supposed to be a dress, but I wore it as a shirt—long light blue, it looked like a baby gown almost and I wore it with these brown leggings and knee-high lace up boots,” recalls Holt of a red carpet look (see below) that she regrets. “It was kind of scary, and I’m so sad that I did that to myself.”
Surprisingly the style star didn’t splurge on clothing with her first big paycheck. Instead, she opted for a pet.
“When I was 8 or 9, I did a commercial or something, and my parents gave me $200 from it and I took that $200 to Petco and I bought a Betta fish,” she says with a laugh.
