Terri Edda Miller and Andrew W. Marlowe
An L.A. private detective teams up with a Hollywood actress straight out of rehab in the new comedy crime series.
Andrew W. Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller, the creator and the executive producer, respectively, of long-running ABC hit Castle, have set up their new project with StudioCanal's Tandem Productions.
Take Two is a comedy crime procedural in the Castle mode, featuring a mismatched pair that solves cases. Eddie Valetik is an L.A. private investigator who hires Emma Swift, the former star of a hit cop show, now fresh out of rehab, to appear in late-night TV spots for his PI business. When the ads go out, a flood of offers come in, all wanting to hire Emma. Reluctantly, Eddie teams up with the actress, who draws on the plots of her former TV series to help solve their cases.
Marlow's and Miller's production shingle, MilMar Pictures, will produce Take Two together with Tandem, a Germany-based subsidiary of France's StudioCanal. Tandem CEO Rola Bauer will executive produce Take Two along with Marlowe and Miller.
StudioCanal will handle worldwide sales and begin offering the show to international buyers at the MIPTV television market, which kicks off in Cannes next week.
“Terri and Andrew both have such wonderful voices and together their combined talents are electric,” Bauer said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more delighted to be working with them on such a playfully fun new procedural series like Take Two.”
Marlowe created Castle for ABC and served as showrunner and, together with Miller, executive producer for the show's first seven seasons. Throughout its run, the show has been one of ABC's most dependable performers, pulling in 12 million plus viewers on a weekly basis, though ratings have slipped sharply in its current, eighth season.
Tandem specializes in pan-Atlantic co-productions, typically ordered straight to series and produced with U.S. talent and the backing of European television networks. The group just wrapped production on the third season of Crossing Lines, a procedural starring Donald Sutherland, Elizabeth Mitchell and Goran Visnjic, which airs on Germany's Sat.1 and TF1 in France. Tandem's dark dramedy Spotless, about two French brothers who run a crime cleanup business, premiered on French pay-TV network Canal + and will bow in the U.S. this fall on NBCUniversal and Hearst's Esquire Network.
”We are thrilled to be partnering with Rola and the innovative group at Tandem on this exciting new series,” Marlowe and Miller said.
Tandem also is developing Sex, Lies and Handwriting, a one-hour procedural from Saving Grace alums Nancy Miller and Annie Brunner, and has a first-look deal with Big Light Productions, the U.K.-based shingle run by Frank Spotnitz, creator of Amazon's The Man in the High Castle. Big Light also produced the third season of Crossing Lines for Tandem.
